Private Schools

How Private Schools can participate in the Kids Voting Hawaii (KVH) elections:

Now – August 20:  Getting Ready
Step 1. Principals should designate a teacher or staff member who will be responsible for printing Student Password Cards and distributing the cards to teachers to give to students.  This person is called the School Level Ambassador, or SLA.

Step 2.  Principals will email the name and email address of the SLA to the KVH Private School Coordinator Naomi Yap (email:  moc.liamtohnull@payn), if they have not already done so.

Step 3.  The Principal and SLA will receive a School Password in September.  The School Password will be used by the SLA to log on to view and print Student Passwords to be distributed to teachers who will give them to students.  Students will need their Student Password in order vote in the General Election.

September 4 – 18: Mock Primary Elections
Please inform your students about the Mock Primary Elections.  This is open to all K-12 students who may vote without a Student Password.  Students go to the Kids Voting Hawaii website at kidsvotinghawaii.org and click on the Vote tab.  There will be instructions for the Mock Primary Election on the website.

September 27 – October 17: General Election Practice Voting
Students can practice on the General Election Ballot without a password; however, they must know their Voting District and Precinct Numbers.

October 19 – November 2:  “For Real” Voting period
Before students can vote, they must have their Student Voter Password card. Voting can be done at home, school, or public libraries, wherever there is Internet access.

November 2 (Election Day):
No walk-in voting at polling places. Students may vote on any computer with Internet access. No voting will be accepted after 6:00 pm.

Training for School Level Ambassadors (SLAs):
Training sessions have been scheduled for all districts, including the neighbor islands. Click here for the training schedule.  If the SLA is attending any of the trainings, he/she should email the Private School Coordinator.  They will need to print the training handouts found here and bring them to the training session.
